environmental design
Bell Architects new design office is an outward expression of the environmental basis that underpins the practice ethos.
As a practice, we have been concerned about environmental design responsibility for over 7 years; practice principal Murray Bell trained in environmental & ecological design whilst qualifying as an architect in Aberdeen.
The building itself has been used as a demonstrator project; an exemplar in many ways, of how we believe building can and should be realised.
We have utilised many environmental devices, most of which are discussed in the self-build housing or even commercial markets as 'bolt-on' options during construction.
These include, modern methods of construction - composite steel & timber frame, air-heating from a gas boiler, high insulation, passive ventilation, solar flat plate heat collectors, water based finishes etc.
We are determined to achieve a BREEAM excellent rating, and even have a lift and shower within the building to accommodate particular needs, or cycle to work.
The building is unashamedly modern, and yet has a degree of softness, that allows the practice to function with a warm, welcoming, and friendly atmosphere within. Everybody that visits enjoys the interior and the freshly ground coffee that is constantly on tap!
