In the rich, rugged landscape of Scotland, lies Loch Lomond and The Loch Lomond National Park, a location popular with visitors throughout the year. With lots of tourism potential, this picturesque area is, however, quite rightly protected from certain types of development. Any architectural work must be of the very highest standard and shouldn’t adversely affect the surrounding landscape.
So, when we were approached by a couple who wanted to build here, we were excited to take on the challenge. Our clients, who were semi-retired, were keen to build holiday cottages and a special training kitchen, as they hoped to make and sell products, as well as teach gluten-free baking classes.
They wanted to create all of this in a manner appropriate to the area, so our innovative design was carefully thought out to ensure it suited a forest setting. As a result, the Scottish planners were very keen to see it develop and the plans for four holiday cottages and one large communal building/training kitchen were approved. All of this had a profound impact on the couple, as it created a huge potential for their future in running a small business – something we were delighted to have been a part of.
